another week of stories

Sunday
Last Sunday I sang with the praise team at church...but we didn't have an evening service so it was pretty low key the rest of the day.  (As I'm remembering anyway.)  I did manage to get a picture of Levi even though he wasn't really thrilled with me taking pictures.  :)
Cookie Monster Shirt
I was upstairs picking out clothes for Dorian to wear on Monday morning when he spotted this cookie monster shirt in his drawer.  It had been given to him from the neighbor months ago and he hadn't yet wore it.  Well, its become his favorite shirt!  He was overjoyed!  He couldn't wait to get downstairs to show daddy!  He wore it for part of the day and then said that he wanted to take it off so that it wouldn't get dirty because he wanted to wear it to preschool the next day.  Since I was a little worried about how he'd do back at preschool after Christmas break, I was all for that idea.  And the next morning was great!  He was apprehensive at first about heading into his classroom, but then suddenly darted in the door with a smile on his face and pointed to his shirt.  :)  It was at that point that Levi and I left and I was so happy to see him so excited.  On Friday, another preschool morning, Dorian was disappointed that his Cookie Monster shirt hadn't yet been washed.  I have a feeling he'll be wearing that one a lot over the next couple of weeks.  :)

It was also on Monday that we had to get both of our vehicles over to the mechanic.  :(  Both on one day...what are the chances!)  One had to be towed and Nathan brought the other one in before he left for work.  So Nathan walked to work even though it was only about 15 degrees outside.  And the boys and I declared it a day to hang out at home together.  Thankfully though, one vehicle was finished already by the afternoon so the boys and I walked over to pick it up...well, Dorian rode his bike.
Date Night
Nathan had arranged for a sitter to come on Wednesday night so that we could head out on a date together!  We ate a delicious meal at Alpin Rose since we had a gift card and a coupon (and yet it still seemed a little pricey!)  Then we attended the Hope/Calvin rivalry basketball game.  Just like old times.  We used to go to nearly all of Hope's games together before children.  I really enjoy watching basketball and we had a great time!

Treehouse
On Thursday morning I decided to go to the Grandville Mall with the boys to take care of a few errands and then also to let the boys run at the Treehouse.  I don't know what it is about that place...but the boys are so much fun to watch there!  You'd think they've never fought with each other just watching them because they play so well together there!  Nearly every time they went down the slide, they went down it together...holding hands!  :)  If they got separated amongst the zoo of children everywhere, they'd run to me and ask where their brother was.  They really do love each other!  :)

Movie Night
Since Nathan has been gone (4 days..we're missing him and glad he's traveling home tonight) we decided to have a movie night on Friday night.  I brought up from the basement the comfy little chairs that Nathan's coworker had dropped off at our house shortly before Christmas.  They aren't really my style...but it's still super cute to see them sitting in them!
Games
Dorian has been having so much fun playing with the new games that we got over Christmas!  I've played memory, Hi Ho Cherry-Oh, and Candy Land many times this past week.  :)
Ice Sculptures
It was 7 degrees when we woke up on Saturday.  Brrrrr!  We were eating breakfast and a common conversation at mealtime lately is to decide who is big and who is little.  :)  And unfortunately it usually turns into an argument.  "I'm big and you're little," says Dorian.  "No, I'm big and you're little,"  says Levi.  The boys prefer both to be big.  I guess I'd really rather be refered to as little even though the boys conclude otherwise, but I just try to move them on to another topic.  :)  Anyway...
We did a few things around the house and then went outside to shovel the driveway.  Thankfully we didn't get as much snow as we did the last time Nathan was gone and our neighbor had plowed most of it already.  Yeah!  Since we were all bundled up already, we jumped in the van and went downtown to look at the ice sculptures from the competition that they had going on.  Dorian's favorite was the dolphin and Levi's favorite was the seahorse.  By the time we had gotten home I was FREEZING cold.  It had warmed up to about 17 degrees and I wasn't dressed as warmly as the boys.  Later that day I searched online to see how much snow pants would be for myself.  :)

Sugar Cookies
This morning had a rough start...still living as a single mom.  But I was feeling better after baking Grandma Schaap's recipe of sugar cookies!!!  The only disappointing thing was that I didn't have the same potato masher as my grandma...the kind that when you push the ball of dough down makes little squares on the top of the cookie.  I may have to find one like that.  :)  But they were delicious and tasted nearly as I remember them.  I've eaten way too many over the course of this day.

Sleeping Bag Story Night
The boys had watched more tv than I usually allow them today so after supper this evening we had a sleeping bag story night!  It turned out to be a fun idea.  The boys each layed out their new sleeping bags and pillow on the floor in the living room, picked out some books, and we read about 8 different Curious George stories!  Dorian's attention span is noticeably longer than Levi's.  I think Levi actually only lasted through one book and then he was off entertaining himself.  :)

House
In the week ahead, it looks like we'll be making an offer on a house in Sioux Center!  I've been thinking about that a lot and nervous about  making a good decision.  I think I finally came to a peace about it tonight, trusting that God really does have this under control and remembering again that He knows our future and our families needs better than I.

It's so good for me to recall all of the highlights of our week.  My life is blessed.
