December 1-24

Tablecloth for lunch
One Sunday morning Dorian convinced us he was too sick to go to church.  We didn't think he was super sick but could agree that he needed some alone time.  When we came home we saw a huge improvement in his mood.  There was a huge smile on his face and the table was set, even with a tablecloth, for lunch!
Celebrating Levi
How special to celebrate Levi!!!  He did a wonderful job coloring and filling out his Star of the Week poster and sharing it with his class.  "I am 8 years old.  When I grow up I want to be a dog trainer. Hobbies are Wii and AWANA.  My favorite colors are blue, red and green.  Soccer is my favorite sport.  My favorite foods are pizza and ice cream."
2nd Grade Gingerbread Day
I was thrilled to help out with Gingerbread Day in Levi's classroom!  I think Levi's main goal was to see how much candy he could get on his cookie and his Gingerbread house!  I love Levi's enthusiasm!

Cut Out Cookies
Since making cut out cookies is more than we can handle doing all at once, we made the dough one night, the frosting another night, cut them out and baked them another night, and frosted them on a Saturday morning.  Whew!  We did it!  And I'm glad that we did.  What fun memories!  The boys were so proud of their creations!

Then on Saturday afternoon, we took some of our cookies to Great Grandma Bolkema's apartment and shared them with her!  We walked around to check out all of the Christmas trees and the snowman one was one of our favorites.  Then we played games together.  It's a good tradition!
Presents
One day after school Levi asked if he could have the Christmas wrapping paper.  He came up with a stack of presents for everyone in our family and I had no idea what he had wrapped.  I loved looking at them.  Chosen, wrapped, and lovingly put under our Christmas tree.
Pizza Ranch
We joined some preschool friends and their moms for a field trip to the Pizza Ranch!  They got to see the huge fridge and freezer and watch how pizza is made.  And possibly Mason's favorite part was getting to eat his own pizza at 10:30 in the morning!  :)

Dorian's enthusiasm
I could tell by the huge smile on Dorian's face that he had something really fun to tell me about his day at school.  He proceeded to take out a tissue filled with tiny bones that they dissected out of owl vomit.  Dorian was slightly disappointed that I wasn't quite as excited as he was to have it laying out on our kitchen counter, but I warmed up to the idea of keeping them.  :)  I do love it that he was so excited about this project!
Christmas Elves
12 days before Christmas we heard the doorbell ring but when we got to the door, there was no one in sight, but a package was left at the door.  There was a note explaining that some Christmas Elves were going to be delivering gifts each day until Christmas.  Each night they would come at different times and we tried harder and harder to catch them, with no success.  Then the boys were begging to set up our video camera which we did and still didn't get good enough footage to pinpoint who the elves could be.  Mason thought maybe they could fly!  The boys spent many nights wearing their shoes so they could run when the doorbell rang!  :)  It was so fun!  Then on Christmas Eve, the Borchers family all came to our door singing with the last gift and to wish us a Merry Christmas!  They totally surprised us and it was one of the highlights of the Christmas season this year!
Peanut Butter Blossoms
This was the 2nd round of peanut butter blossoms, mostly because I wanted to eat one but didn't want to eat the ones we were saving for Christmas parties!  Plus, we had all the ingredients in the house to make more!  :)
Santa
Levi had a dress up day at AWANA where he was supposed to dress up as something that reminded him of Christmas.  A couple of people from each class were going to be chosen to be best dressed and rewarded AWANA bucks to spend on their store nights.  He REALLY wanted to dress up as Santa and really wanted to win for best dressed!  So I offered to find him a Santa costume.  :)  He was thrilled with his find and appeared as Santa for many of our Christmas parties!  Love all of his fun expressions!

People
This was the first time I've seen Mason drawing people!  I loved it so much I needed to take a picture to save the memory.  :)
Snowmen and snow piles
Nathan made snowman pancakes at the boys request for breakfast!  Yum.

Dorian and Levi love it when our neighbor plows out driveway and makes a pile of snow that they can play on!  It was very cold outside, but they played on that snow pile for over an hour!
Weekend before Christmas
Grandpa and Grandma Tintle came on Saturday and we opened presents with them!

We are so excited to use our new kayaks at the cabin this summer!  And the boys each love the new game they got to play with!  Thanks Grandpa and Grandma!

Mason was happy to help other people open their presents this year too, especially if it meant that he got to use the big scissors!  :)
Sunday morning we woke up to negative 16 degrees!  I'm so thankful for a warm home!!!

Sunday evening the boys had their Christmas program at church.  All 3 boys were in it this year and I couldn't wait to see them all!  It took Mason a couple of songs to warm up to the idea of singing on the stage, but he did great for his first time!

On Monday morning Nathan drove out to our cabin to show his parents on their way back home and to stay and work there for a couple of days.

He even enjoyed a beautiful sunrise and a morning walk on the icy lake!

Preparations
December was busy with extra cleaning, cooking, baking, decorating, gift shopping and wrapping, and always more dishes and laundry to do.  I was so thrilled when my last present was wrapped and I was excited about the gifts that we found for everyone!  I'm usually pretty relaxed about what the boys wear, but on Christmas day, I get to pick out their clothes!  Ready for the Christmas weekend to begin!  :)
Matching PJs
I know the gift of matching pjs for the boys was more my gift than theirs!  :)  I couldn't resist them when I found them on sale all in the right sizes, shopping with friends, a long time ago.  We gave them a couple of days before Christmas so they could wear them!
Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve we went to Sheldon to celebrate with my Grandma Bolkema and all of my Aunts and Uncles.  Our boys love playing Bingo each year and they love picking out Bingo prizes!  They each come home with many treasures!

It's not too often chairs have a seatbelt.  :)
Levi and I were totally in on the game Aunt Judy brought to play!  After spinning, you eat a jelly bean not knowing if it's going to be great or gross.  The expressions on peoples faces are the highlight of the game.  Or maybe just watching Levi's expressions were the highlight of the game!
We convinced Nathan to join us part way through and then Mason followed suit.

Tough competition going on!
I love my sisters and feel very blessed to live near to them.  We had to take a picture when we all showed up wearing vests!  :)
