Our first experience was heading over to South Side Christian School as a family one evening in August for an Ice Cream Social to see his classroom and to meet Mrs. Algra. :) It felt strange to be there as a parent. Am I really that old already? :) Oh, and before the Ice Cream Social, we had gone to Meijer so that Dorian could pick out his backpack. His neighbor friend Alex has a backpack so he thought this was quite awesome. After I narrowed the selection down, he chose the Toy Story 3 one. :) As you can see, he was beaming. (His brother on the other hand, was so genuinely sad that he wasn't going to preschool...my heart felt for him.)
For the whole summer, Dorian seemed excited about preschool, but didn't really talk about it too much. A couple days before it started, he had a change of heart. He was NOT going to go. I was quite worried that I would have to leave him kicking and screaming. But his first morning went better than expected! It took him a loooooong time to be convinced to enter his classroom, and then finally walked in when Aubanie came and took his hand and they walked in together. :) And I'll never forget how excited he was when I picked him up that day. He literally came running out of his room, smiling, and jumped into my arms. He goes on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:15 to 11:15.
And the following weeks have been similar in that the mornings of preschool, he says that he doesn't want to go and he doesn't want to walk in his classroom on his own. But after a little bribery, he's been doing much better the last few times and has been quite proud of himself for being such a big boy.
Invited to an Apple Picnic. :) It would have been outside if the weather would have cooperated.
October 12, Dorian's 4th Birthday! I was the classroom helper!
October 19 was Dorian's first field trip! A pumpkin patch. :)
