July 3 was the Village Celebration with games, rides and fireworks. This year there was a climbing wall that Dorian, Levi and Aniah all tried out. Dorian was very excited when he reached the top!
About a week prior to leaving, we decided spend the 4th of July weekend in Minneapolis and my parents were able to join us!
The Como Park Zoo was a lot of fun!
This is what we get when we try to take a family photo. Kind of ironic that our attempt to take a nice family photo ends up looking more like a zoo than I wanted it to.
The boys chose go carts and driving cars for their rides.
Mason fell asleep in the stroller. What a flexible, good little boy!
We ate supper at Joe's Crab Shack.
On Saturday, Nathan, Dad, Dorian and Levi went to a Twins vs. Yankees game while Mom, Mason and I went shopping to IKEA, The Container Store and West Elm. We ended up at the Mall of America that evening where we ate at a Japanese restaurant and Dorian and Levi went on their very first roller coaster ride! Dad, Nathan and I rode on it too! On Sunday, we went to Garrison Keillor's outdoor music festival and hymn sing.
Mason thinks it's fun to put my sandals on. :)
Oh yeah, and we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary! We dropped off our boys with mom and dad, went out to eat, and rented a jet ski! It seemed like it should have been more memorable but it was a pretty normal day. Dorian made some beautiful art projects at a summer class that he took. He was able to show them to me at his art show!!!
Nathan climbed the highest point in Arizona (Humphreys Peak) while he was there for a conference.
The boys and I went to my parent's house while Nathan was gone. I was able to take this picture from the window so the boys wouldn't flee when they saw the camera. :) What a precious memory.
While eating ice cream outside, Toby jumped up on the table! :)
RAGBRAI 2014: 75 miles on Day 1. I did it!
I rode next to my sister Kerry most of the way when we weren't weaving through other bikers. We also went with 3 of Kerry's friends and my cousin, Katie. It was exciting to ride among thousands of other people. Unfortunately I didn't see Lance Armstrong but he was there also! It ended up to be a 90 degree day with a side wind most of the way which helped keep us cool. We left at 7 and made it to my Uncle and Aunts house at 3:00. Our stops were very brief so we were on our bikes nearly that entire time!
The starting line was packed for blocks.
One of our stops along the way was in Sheldon where we had some family to cheer us on. And at our lunch stop, Nathan and the boys were there!
While I was biking the boys stopped at the Ocheyedan Mound. It used to be the tallest point in Iowa! :)
Yeah! We did it!
Our finish line was to jump in the lake!
I'm very thankful to Kerry for being brave enough to take on this challenge and let me join her even though I'm not in great shape. I learned a lot about bikes, biking gear, exercising, and myself. I achieved my goal of getting out and exercising by going on quite a few different training rides. It was rewarding to know that we were raising money for Compassion in Action. It was a fun adventure!
July 25-30: Our family vacation to the Emerson Bay campground at Lake Okoboji.
Dorian and Levi LOVED fishing. After Dorian caught 9 fish (including 2 big catfish) in one morning, he is convinced that he is going to be a fisherman and buy his own boat someday.
They were so proud and it was so fun to see their joy and enthusiasm!!!
We spent one afternoon at the Cutty's playground and miniature golf course.
Nathan prepared all of the fish that the boys caught and cooked it over the fire. What a great dad!
On my birthday the boys served me a DQ ice cream cake and we ate at the Pizza Ranch for supper.
There is only one good thing to do with strawberry salad leftovers that nobody wants to eat...smash them in daddy's face. :) Mason was a bit concerned but the rest of us were laughing pretty hard!
Mason spent hours pushing the stroller around. He has actually gotten so good at it that he can even stay on the sidewalk.
We went to Arnold's Park and discovered a fun playground for Mason while the older boys went on a couple of rides.
Dorian and Levi chose to go on the Log ride together!
Yum! Our afternoon snack was at the Nutty Bar stand!
Levi and Nathan went on the Ferris Wheel together.
Dorian and I went on the bumper cars!
I had fun taking Mason on a train ride!
