Kindergarten!!!

August 22
Dorian has seemed ready for Kindergarten ever since he went to Kindergarten round up last Spring...until 2 days before school started.  Then he started to get nervous.  Poor kid.  It's the hardest thing to send your child to school when he doesn't want to go.  I began to wonder, should I have home schooled him?  Is there something more that I could have done to better prepare him?  Is he going to cry at school or have any fun at all?  It was a LONG day.  Levi cried because he didn't want Dorian to leave and wanted to go to school himself.  Dorian was trying to be brave, but cried when he had to leave me.  And I cried the moment he stepped into his classroom when he could no longer see me.  Thankfully that morning Eden called and wondered if Levi wanted to come and play because I really needed a listening ear and that muffin and latte!

Levi and I ate lunch together, and it felt really strange not to have Dorian with us.  I had packed Dorian's very first school lunch in his new snake lunchbox that morning.  As it turns out, he ended up getting a school lunch by mistake!  :)

I was excited to make homemade cookies to have after school together.  Levi was a willing little helper!

I had decided to pick up and drop off Dorian from school on his first day.  I was the second mom waiting to pick him up.  :)  And when he saw me he clung to me and didn't have too many smiles.  As it turns out, he had just recovered from an incident where the teacher had put a bus sticker on him and he knew he wasn't supposed to ride the bus.  But instead of saying anything, he began to worry that he was going to get home and I wouldn't be there.  After some tears, the teacher realized her mistake.

When we got home, Dorian was pretty talkative about his day.  Yeah!  He had fun doing a scavenger hunt around the school looking for a raccoon.  He was excited to see his friend Annika and his cousin Aniah in the lunchroom.  He told me all about rest time.  And he was most proud of himself for talking with the little boy that he was paired up with for recess time.  I think recess was the highlight of his day!  :)

I had wanted to get a cute picture of Dorian with his teacher or on our front step before he left for his first day...but I knew that would be pushing a little too much.  So I agreed to get a picture of him after he came home.  This was the first picture!  :)
He still wasn't willing to take a picture for me. But I kept insisting, and he finally smiled for a picture with Molly!

After a difficult first day, Nathan and I decided that it was best for him not to take the bus at this point.  We're hoping that he'll warm up to the idea once he's used to the school routine.

Days 2 and 3 were equally hard in the morning.  But he came home each time with excitement about his day!!!  I heard, "I love Kindergarten!" and "I wish that I had Kindergarten tomorrow."  So I'm hopeful for a better morning tomorrow!  :)
